Welcome to the SW Florida .Net Developer Group!
You've found the public website for the .Net community in SW Florida: some of us
just call it "Group." (It's easier to remember.)
We meet at least once, and usually 2-3 times every month to learn, network and share
experience and advice about Microsoft software development technologies with our
fellow enthusiasts. On the left, you'll see our next scheduled meetings. On the
right, we thank the folks who've helped us keep it fun, beneficial, and sometimes
even lucrative to come hear a topic.
We send out notifications and sometimes keep a discussion going on our Group at Windows Live. Joining is free, and it's how
we communicate.
Our Boy is Big in England
Local .Net rockstar Brad Serbu has an article published in ComputerWorld UK, titled "The secret
to a successful CMDB." CMDB, in this case, is "configuration management database,"
and it is defined in common language as a repository of information related to all
the components of an information system. Read the article to get Brad's top tips on
doing it right, and generating return on investment instead of pain as a result.
SWFL Code Camp announced for 10/3 at FGCU
We've just locked in the date for our 2nd Annual SW Florida Code Camp, and we're
already getting started with planning and outreach. We'll be at FGCU, once again
the crown jewel of code camp sites in Florida. Details to come when we get Code
Camp's website up, and possibly before - stay tuned.
More Presentations available online through Live Meeting
More topic choices, more days, more convenient, all from the comfort of your own
home: now you can virtually "attend" User Group meetings all over the world with
Live Meeting. Facebook has a virtual User Group that holds meetings in this manner,
as does LinkedIn. There's a .Net presence on at least 20 of the most prominent social
networks. INETA has provisioned our group with a copy of Live Meeting by INETA,
and in the future, we will offer our meetings for broadcast in this format.
Speakers always wanted
We run one meeting a month in each of three locations; therefore, we go through
a lot of the current topics in short order. But if you're not hearing the topics
that interest you, or you're thinking you would like to hear more about something,
the best thing to do about it is to put together your own presentation. We
can almost guarantee you that if you're thinking about a subject, others are, too;
and then there are those of us who will go to anything as long as it's Group.
Topics of presentations include anything Microsoft or software development-related,
with at least a loose tie to Microsoft Software - Groups around here have had presentations
on anything from CSS to Agile, and even ones dedicated to getting a job; if you've
come to Group even two or three times, you'll know right away what is and isn't
appropriate at Group (e.g., Silverlight: good; Flash: good, but not appropriate
at Group). Presentations should last at least an hour, and it is possible to go
an hour and a half.
Locals have preferred speaker status not only at Code Camp, but also at Group. If
you're interested in presenting to the rest of the Group, speak with John, Amy,
Adam, or Mike at the next meeting and we'll get you set up with a slot.
